How a homeowners policy is packaged
A standard homeowners form bundles property and liability coverages. It is not a warranty for maintenance issues. Dwelling limits are usually grounded in reconstruction cost, not sale price.
Dwelling and related structures
Dwelling coverage applies to the house and attached structures after a covered loss. Detached garages and similar buildings often have separate limits. Code-related upgrades may need an ordinance-or-law endorsement.
Belongings, liability, and deductibles
Personal property coverage applies to belongings, often with sub-limits. Liability can help with certain injury or property-damage claims. Deductibles may be flat dollars or, in some catastrophe-prone areas, a percentage of dwelling coverage.

Frequently asked questions
Does a homeowners policy cover flood?
Usually not. Flood insurance is typically a separate NFIP or private policy. Check flood maps and any lender requirements.
What is additional living expense coverage?
If a covered loss makes the home unlivable, this coverage may help with reasonable extra living costs. Everyday bills you would have paid anyway are not automatically included.
